Magical Lapland Akaslompolo 3 day trip to Lapland

Day 1 in Lapland

Morning flight from London Gatwick to Kittilä. Transfer to the delightful, cosy, family-run Ylläshumina Hotel, collecting special thermal clothing en-route. Simple light lunch served at the hotel.  Perhaps relax in the hotel’s sauna & hot tub before dressing warmly and departing for a husky dog safari (5km).  This is one of the best husky dog farms in Lapland and is home to over 100 huskies   Dinner in Yllashumina restaurant.

Day 2 in Lapland

After breakfast take a short transfer to the ‘Lapp village’ for a full day of activities with Arctic circle ceremony, snow fun activities - tandem skiing, snowshoe walking, kick sledging, tobogganing and children's snowmobiling.  Make gingerbread cookies and Christmas decorations.

Lunch will be served throughout the day.  Each family will be taken on a snowmobile & reindeer sleigh ride in a search for Santa's cabin.  Individual family visit with Santa. 

You will then return to the hotel for time to relax before enjoying a festive dinner.  Dinner is buffet style and is a combination of international and Finnish traditional dishes.

Day 3 in Lapland

It's free time in the morning, time to enjoy the fresh crisp air, and stunning scenery.  Toboggans are provided for hotel guests.  There is a toboggan slope behind the hotel and children and adults are welcome to play in the snow!

After lunch at the hotel,  set off on a snowmobile safari through the unspoilt Lapland forest. Two adults per snowmobile and children (and those who do not wish to drive) are pulled in the sleigh behind the snowmobiles. Half way around the 25km route, there will be an opportunity to stop for snacks, warm drinks and to swap drivers.

Late afternoon depart for the airport and your return flight to the UK.

3 night departure 01 December

Day 1 - Scheduled flight with Finnair via Helsinki from either London Heathrow or Manchester to Kittila, arriving at approx 1750.  On arrival, transfer to Akaslompolo and Yllashumina Hotel with a stop en-route to collect thermal clothing (transfer approx 50 minutes).  Check-in and dinner at Yllashumina hotel.

Day 2 - After Breakfast transfer to Magic Forest (approx 20 minutes by coach) for Arctic Circle Ceremony, reindeer safari (approx 20 minutes) and snow fun activities - tandem skiing, snowshoe walking, kick sledging, toboganning and children's snowmobiling.  Make gingerbread cookies and Christmas decorations.  Lunch is served throughout the day.  You will receive an invitation from Santa with your scheduled time for a visit.  Snowmobile and reindeer sleigh ride to Santa's cabin with private family visit.  Santa reads children's letters and each child receives a soft toy gift.  Dinner at the hotel.

Day 3 - After Breakfast transfer to husky dog farm for a husky dog safari (5km).  One of the best Husky farms in Finland with over 100 Huskies.  Receive driving instructions and drive your own team of dogs.  After lunch back at the hotel, join a snowmobile safari (25km) through unspoilt Lappish wilderness.  Adults share snowmobiles, with the chance to swap drivers after a stop for warm drinks and snack.  Children travel in a sleigh behind the guides snowmobile.  Dinner at the hotel.

Day 4   - Check-out after breakfast for your flight back to the UK, departing at approximately 1320, and arriving back into the UK at around 1700. 

Christmas departure - 23 December 2011 for 3 nights/4 days

Day 1 - 23 Dec.  On arrival in Lapland, transfer to the Hotel Yllashumina in Akaslompolo, collecting your thermal clothing en-route.  Lunch at the hotel.  Early evening, depart for the husky dog farm where you will learn about the lives of the huskies and drive a team of huskies through the wintry Lappish countryside (5km).  Dinner in the hotel restaurant.  

Day 2 - Christmas Eve.  After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the Lapp Village for a day of activities with Arctic Circle ceremony, snow fun activities - tandem skiing, snowshoe walking, kick sledging, tobogganing and children's snowmobiles.  Make gingerbread cookies and Christmas decorations.  Lunch is served throughout the day.  Snowmobile and Reindeer sleigh ride in seach of Santa's Cabin.  Individual family visit with Santa.  Join in traditional lighting of Christmas candles in the village.  Festive buffet style dinner at the Hotel.

Day 3 - Christmas Day.  Morning free.  Why not spend Christmas morning cross country skiing on ski trails starting from the hotel or just enjoy the snow and tobogganing.  Lunch at the hotel.  After lunch depart for snow shoe walking and an Ice fishing adventure.  Approximate duration 2 hours.  Dinner in hotel restaurant.

Day 4 - Boxing Day.  Morning free.  After lunch depart for a wilderness snowmobile safari with a stop for warm drinks and snacks.  Two adults share a snowmobile and children and those who do not wish to drive travel in the sleigh pulled behind the snowmobiles.  Late afternoon/early evening depart for the airport with a short stop en-route for souvenir shopping.
