Day 1 in Lapland

Morning flight from London to Kittilä. Transfer to the delightful, cosy, family-run Ylläshumina Hotel or Lapp Village Cabins* collecting special thermal clothing en-route. Lunch at the hotel.  Perhaps relax in the hotel’s sauna & hot tub before dressing warmly and departing for a husky dog safari (3-5km).  This is one of the best husky dog farms in Lapland and is home to over 100 huskies   Coffee, warm juice and gingerbread cookies will be served after the exhilarating safari, before returing to the Yllashumina hotel (or your cabin) for dinner.

Day 2 in Lapland

After breakfast take a short transfer to the ‘Lapp village’ where a day of lots of fun winter activities will take place. The children can enjoy the mini skidoos, bake gingerbread cookies and make Christmas decorations or enjoy snow fun - tandem skiing, kick sledging and  tobogganing.  A Lappish woman will perform a ‘Crossing the Arctic circle’ ceremony and welcome you to Lapland.

Lunch will be served in the Lapp Village throughout the day.  Each family will be taken on a snowmobile & reindeer sleigh ride in a search for Santa's cabin.  Individual family visit with Santa. 

You will then return to the hotel for time to relax before enjoying a traditional festive Christmas dinner in the Yllashumina's restaurant.

Day 3 in Lapland

It's free time in the morning, time to enjoy the fresh crisp air, and stunning scenery.  Toboggans are provided for hotel guests.  There is a toboggan slope behind the hotel and children and adults are welcome to play in the snow!

After lunch at the hotel,  set off on a snowmobile safari through the unspoilt Lapland forest. Two adults per snowmobile and (unless it’s very cold) children tucked up warmly in sleighs pulled by the snowmobiles. Half way around the 25km route, there will be an opportunity to stop for snacks, warm drinks and to swap drivers.

Late afternoon depart for the airport and your return flight to the UK.

* Lapp Village Cabins available on departures for 2 nights on 11th, 13th & 15th December only.    

Christmas departure 23 December 2010 for 3 nights/4 days

Day 1 - 23 Dec.  On arrival in Lapland, transfer to the Hotel Yllashumina in Akaslompolo, collecting your thermals en-route.  Lunch at the hotel.  Early evening, depart for the husky dog farm where you will learn about the lives of the huskies and drive a team of huskies through the wintry Lappish countryside (5km).  Dinner in the hotel restaurant.  

Day 2 - Christmas Eve.  Transfer to the Lapp Village for a day of activities with Arctic Circle ceremony, snow fun activities - tandem skiing, snowshoe walking, kick sledging, tobogganing and children's snowmobiles.  Make gingerbread cookies and Christmas decorations.  Lunch is served throughout the day.  Snowmobile and Reindeer sleigh ride in seach of Santa's Cabin.  Individual family visit with Santa.  Join in traditional lighting of Christmas candles in the village.  Welcome drinks followed by buffet style Christmas dinner.

Day 3 - Christmas Day.  Morning free.  Why not spend Christmas morning cross country skiing on ski trails starting from the hotel or just enjoy the snow and tobogganing.  Lunch at the hotel.  After lunch depart for snow shoe walking and an Ice fishing adventure.  Approximate duration 2 hours.  Festive dinner at the Yllashumina hotel.

Day 4 - 26 Dec.  Morning free.  After lunch depart for a 25km winter wonderland snowmobile safari with a stop for warm juice and gingerbread cookies.  Adults can drive their own snowmobiles, while children and those who do not wish to drive are pulled behind in sleighs.  Depart for the airport and your return flight to the UK.
