Magical Lapland Yllasjarvi 3 day trip to Lapland

This Magical Lapland break is set in Yllasjarvi, a small secluded Lappish village situated at the foot of a forest.  Accommodation is at the Yllas Saaga Hotel and Chalet Apartments.  Luxury log cabins* catering for  larger group are also available a short distance away.

Day 1 in Lapland

Morning flight from London to Kittilä. Transfer to your accommodation.  Collection of thermal clothing en-route. Time for lunch then afterwards it's time to dress warmly and depart for a husky dog farm where you will learn about the lives of the huskies.  Husky dog safari through the wintry Lappish countryside (3km).   Dinner at the hotel or served in the cabin (Luxury cabins)

Day 2 in Lapland

Depart hotel and join a 20-30 minute reindeer ride that will take you through the snowy landscape to the reindeer herder's cabins and the Magic Forest.  Join in tandem skiing, snow shoe walking and tobogganing.  BBQ sausages on open fire. Children can drive mini snowmobiles and make Christmas decorations and gingerbread cookies.  Meet Father Christmas in his cabin in the forest.  During your individual family visit Santa will read the children's letters and children receive a small soft toy gift.  A simple Lappish lunch is served in the cabin in the forest.   On the way back to the hotel a stop is made for souvenir shopping.  Welcome drinks in Saaga Hotel.  Festive dinner.

Day 3 in Lapland

It's free time in the morning, time to enjoy the fresh crisp air, and stunning scenery.  Optional activities are available at extra cost (see below). 

In the afternoon, set off on a snowmobile safari through the unspoilt Lapland forest. Two adults per snowmobile and (unless it’s very cold) children tucked up warmly in sleighs pulled by the snowmobiles. Half way around the 3 hour route, stop for lunch at the Kota ( Lappish tepee). After lunch adults who wish to have a faster ride through the forest may do so, those who stay behind can toboggan and sit around the fire. Warm juice, coffee, and ginger bread cookies are served throughout the stay in the forest.

Early evening, depart for the airport and your return flight home.

Christmas departure 23 December 2010 for 3 nights/4 days

Day 1 - 23 Dec.  You are greeted at the airport before you fly out to Kittila.  On arrival in Lapland, guided transfer to the resort, collecting your thermal clothing en-route.  Lunch will be served on arrival.  Late afternoon depart for a husky dog farm where you will learn about the lives of the huskies and drive your own team of huskies and join in a husky safari through the wintry Lappish countryside.  Dinner served in the hotel.

Day 2 - 24 Dec.  After breakfast, depart hotel and join a 30 minute reindeer ride through the snowy landscape to the reindeer herders' cabins and the Magic Forest.  Join in tandem skiing, snow shoe walking and tobogganing.  BBQ sausages on open fire.  Children can drive mini snowmobiles, make gingerbread cookies and Christmas decorations.  Meet Santa on an individual family basis in his cabin in the forest.  Santa will read the children's letters and give them each a small soft toy gift.  A simple Lappish lunch will be served.  On the way back to the hotel/cabin stop for souvenir shopping.  Welcome drinks and  dinner.

Day 3 - Christmas Day.  Free morning and the chance to join an optional activity (extra cost).  Alternatively, you can relax at the swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna or enjoy playing in the snow and tobogganing.  A light lunch will be served before departing for snow shoe walking and an ice fishing adventure.  This evening, a Festive Christmas dinner. 

Day 4 - 26 Dec.  Free morning and then check-out around 1200.  After receiving safety and driving instructions depart for a winter wonderland snowmobile safari with a stop in the forest for lunch..  Adults can drive their own snowmobiles through the Lappish countryside, whilst children and those that do not want to drive are pulled behind in sleighs.  Once we arrive at the Kota (Lappish tepee) lunch is served.  After lunch, adults who wish to have a faster ride (without the sleighs pulled behind) are welcome to join the instructor for an exhilarating ride through the forest.  Those who stay behind can toboggan and sit around the fire soaking up the atmosphere of this authentic and secluded venue.  Warm juice, coffee and ginger bread cookies are served throughout the stay in the forest.  Depart for the airport and your flight home. 

Optional activities available at extra cost for free morning 

Husky farm visit and Sleigh safari - visit to a farm with Alaskan and Siberian Huskies.  Take a 9km ride, learn to steer the sleigh.  Hear about the life of the husky dogs.  Duration 2.5hrs.  Price: Adult £125, Child £95.

Snow Shoe Trip -3 km walk through the forest in snow shoes, stopping for drinks by an open fire.  Duration 2.5hrs.  Price: Adult/Child £50.

Ice Skating - (previous experience essential) on designated 6km track on Ylasjarvi lake.  Transfer from hotel or cabin and rental of equipment is included.  Price on request.

Snowflake Excursion  - Snow fun in Yllasjarvi village, near the frozen lake.  Children can test their snowmobile driving skills in a specifically marked area and under the supervision of local staff.  There is also an opportunity for tobogganing, kick-sledging, skiing on mini skis and snow show walking.  BBQ sausages on an open fire and warm up with hot berry juice in a loge cabin near the lake.  Duration 1.5hrs.  Price Adults/Child £32.  This excursion is suitable for children aged 2-12.  Adults are welcome to join in!  Children must be accompanied and supervised by at least one adult from their own party, who do not need to take part in activities.

Downhill skiing - Both ski school and hire of equipment available at extra cost.  Details on request.
